Donna Deegan is wasting no time as incoming mayor. She is going to jump right in and solve the city’s most intractable problems – diversity and inclusion.
It is unfathomable how the city of Jacksonville managed to get through two centuries without addressing these persistent problems.
With a lack of diversity, everyone is the same. Without enough inclusion … well, just about anything can happen.
Shame on the previous mayors who overlooked this noble cause, especially the Democrats.
But, as Deegan said, “ …it’s a brand-new day for Jacksonville, Florida!”
Deegan isn’t going to skimp, either. She is paying her diversity and inclusion czar $185,000 a year. The overall cost of attaining diversify and inclusion has not yet been determined but it is certain to be substantial.
To the properly woke liberal, however, it is worth any price.
In their eyes, all of America is a woefully undiverse place and terribly exclusive.
Celebrities in their multimillion-dollar Beverly Hills and Malibu homes worry constantly about these problems. Politicians living in places such as Chevy Chase wish fervently for public housing and drug clinics in their neighborhoods. And who can forget the loving way that the liberals of Marthas Vineyard welcomed border invaders into their fold, for about three hours?
Jacksonville is the home of people with brown, white, black, red and yellow skin and people who earn nothing, all the way to those who have a billion dollars, such as the owner of the local football team.
Deegan promises that all of them will be included in whatever things they have been excluded from in the past. Maybe the city will issue free tickets to the football games after all the taxpayers are included in paying $2 billion to build a new stadium.
Her detailed plans for including and diversifying have not been released, so that is just speculation, of course.
But you can bet it will be an expensive undertaking. Making people different isn’t easy and making sure all of them are included in everything whether they want to be or not is a herculean task.
Most liberals also include “equity” in their diversity and inclusion mantra. Why Deegan left this out is unknown. But it must be indispensable in striving to reach the utopian dream of the Far Left, where everyone lives happy and contentedly on a shining hill, governed by Democrats who think of nothing but making the lives of their subjects better.
