Democrats are close to losing their grip on Duval County, which would be a highly symbolic event.

At one time, the results of a Democrat Party primary were always described in the local media as being “tantamount” to election, meaning there was little or no chance that candidate would be defeated by a Republican.

There were only a handful of Republicans in office and Democrats ran the state, using that power to gerrymander districts in order to stay in office.

But the power shifted statewide in the 1990s. Republicans now dominate state government.

In Duval, the huge advantage Democrats had over Republicans has dwindled. There are 18,538 more registered Democrats than Republicans, a decrease of over 50 percent since 2021.

Local Republican leaders ascribe that largely to the rising unpopularity of Democrats nationwide under the disastrous Biden administration.

Opening the borders to terrorists, criminals and the dregs of society from all over the world has angered millions of Americans. The crushing national debt and the Soviet-style redistribution of wealth has added to the angst.

At the same time, the meek response of Republicans has caused third-party registrations to rise, and was one reason for the rise of Donald Trump, who is now feeling the full wrath of the Deep State.

Political parties should stand for something, not stand for anything.
