Last week Eye wrote an article titled, “Here we go again: Rising Homeowners Insurance on the horizon?” We hate to say I told you so, but…
The news today is not a shock to us but will be to those homeowners insured by Farmers Insurance. They have announced they are leaving Florida and the CFO of Florida, Jimmy Patronis, isn’t happy. He released this press release and tweeted, “I’ve always said that when big decisions are made on insurance the policyholder is rarely in the room; unfortunately @WeAreFarmers proved me right. I’ve asked my team to put their heads together in holding Farmers Insurance accountable. I want additional scrutiny on this company.”
While all the anger by Patronis is warranted, we don’t care. What we care about is FINALLY FIXING the Insurance issue in Florida. Homeowners are tired of the games played by politicians and insurance carriers. It is hard for us to believe these guys care about us when they are giving money to political candidates’ campaigns and our political servants are accepting the donations. It is wrong to take money from insurance carriers and then “hold them accountable” after you’ve been elected.
How accountable can you be with your financiers?
If your homeowners insurance is going up again or you are being dropped – it’s time to flood Tallahassee and let them know – “Get this fixed NOW or come election time, you’re out of here.”
